Back pain is a widespread problem in Germany. According to the latest statistics, around a third of the adult population and around a fifth of children and adolescents in Germany suffer from back pain. This situation is alarming, especially as back pain is one of the most common causes of incapacity to work. In view of the significant lack of exercise and the one-sided physical strain that many people experience in their everyday lives, particularly in sedentary jobs, there is no improvement in sight.
We are therefore all the more pleased to be the first orthopaedic specialist in Münster to be able to offer you a highly innovative treatment option. With the Intelligent Decompression Unit (iDU), we use state-of-the-art technology to help you treat your back pain effectively and improve your quality of life.
Overview:
Back pain on the rise
Also at Z.O.R – the Center for Orthopaedics & Regenerative Medicine in Münster, we can confirm this trend. The most common spinal conditions with which our patients come to us include herniated discs, sciatica, facet syndromes and acute back pain such as lumbago or back pain that has been going on for many months and is therefore considered chronic.
At Z.O.R., under the direction of Dr. Ulrich Frohberger – orthopaedic surgeon in Münster – we focus on gentle, conservative and integrative therapeutic approaches that incorporate the findings of functional medicine and modern pain and mitochondrial medicine. An innovative procedure now promises new hope for pain patients.

Decompression therapy
The iDU system – the innovation from the USA now also in Münster
In order to always offer our patients the most advanced treatment, we recently integrated the pioneering iDU system into our therapy portfolio. This state-of-the-art method of spinal decompression therapy is a safe, effective and, above all, non-surgical treatment that we use for herniated discs and compression-related complaints of the lumbar and cervical spine.
In the USA, spinal decompression therapy has already established itself as an excellent method. More and more doctors around the world are using similar procedures to provide their patients with effective treatment for back pain. With the introduction of the iDU system, Dr. Frohberger is pursuing the clear goal of further reducing the need for surgical interventions and sustainably improving the quality of life of those affected.

How does decompression therapy with the iDU system work?
Decompression therapy using the iDUs system is carried out on a state-of-the-art table. The affected intervertebral space is precisely decompressed and relieved using computer-controlled technology. Thanks to state-of-the-art computer technology, seven highly sensitive measuring sensors and the special iDU biofeedback procedure, the treatment guarantees maximum safety. With just one goal: freedom from pain!
The Z.O.R Plus – integrative therapies and self-healing powers
The relief provided by the iDU system creates a negative pressure that allows the intervertebral disc to retract. This process also promotes the absorption of oxygen, fluid and nutrients from the environment and activates the body’s self-healing powers. At Z.O.R, we also support this process of improved nutrient supply and the activation of self-healing powers through the targeted substitution of micronutrients via individually adapted infusions and through holistic treatment concepts.

How does nerve compression occur?
In nerve compression, a nerve fiber or nerve tissue is squeezed or compressed by mechanical action (Latin comprimere “to compress”). Depending on the extent of the pressure, this results in irritation or damage to the affected nerve.
Compression of the spinal nerves can be caused by various factors. Herniated discs are often the main cause. The inner gelatinous core of the intervertebral disc then presses on the nerve roots. Degenerative changes in the spine or anatomical abnormalities can also lead to a narrowing of the spinal canal, which in turn exerts pressure on the nerves. This pressure can lead to pain, numbness and even restricted movement.
Advantages of the iDU system
Safe
Safe and efficient treatment for acute and chronic disc problems and compression-related pain in the lumbar and cervical spine.
Precise
Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, we can localize and treat complaints precisely, which increases their effectiveness.
Gentle
Since it is a non-surgical therapy, the risks and recovery times of surgical procedures are eliminated. iDU is often the last alternative to surgery.
