Pediatric orthopedics Münster
Orthopaedic diseases in children
From birth, growth, development and movement lay the foundations for important lifelong functions and structures of the supporting and locomotor organs. The development and maturation of children’s movement, posture and activity and the assessment of the hands, feet, hips, spine and other joints as well as the muscle and supporting tissue and the blood circulation in the growth zones is the special task of pediatric orthopaedics – as we offer it.
As your orthopaedist in Münster, Dr. Frohberger knows that children and adolescents are not simply small adults, but have special medical conditions and injury patterns that require special diagnostics and treatment methods. Here, too, our approach of individual medicine comes into play. Every person is different. And children in particular. Because children are still growing! And they do not yet suffer from signs of wear and tear of the bones and joints, which is a common reason for an orthopaedic consultation in adults.
Pediatric orthopaedics Münster – promoting healthy development
Abnormalities that doctors, relatives and educators may notice in a child often have nothing pathological about them. Much of it “grows out of it”. However, there are also orthopaedic diseases at a growing age that require conservative, perhaps even surgical treatment. That’s why we doctors have studied and trained for a long time to be able to make the right decision for you and your children. Our motto is:
Pediatric orthopaedics Münster – as much as necessary and as little as possible
Our primary goal is to take the right measures in good time and as gently as possible to prevent incorrect growth in your children and teenagers – and in this way to promote healthy natural development. Of course, we will advise you in detail – especially when it comes to exercise and the promotion of playful sporting activities. We will also be happy to help you choose suitable sports.
If necessary, we will arrange individual physiotherapy and therapeutic support for your child. This may also include treatment with special aids (shoes, adjustments, insoles, braces, splints, etc.) or, in rare cases, even corrective surgery to prevent your child from suffering severe limitations later on.
We recommend preventive examinations:
- Hip sonography of newborns and check-up in the 13th week of life or screening in the 4th-6th week of life
- If conspicuous: newborns immediately (e.g. clubfoot)
- In the case of axial defects of the legs or a conspicuous gait pattern: at 15 months
- If a movement disorder or spinal curvature is suspected
- Scoliosis: immediately
- For acute joint or spinal pain: Immediately
- For chronic complaints, conspicuous deformity or functional impairment: at any time
- at 4 years of age to check the development corresponding to maturity
- at the age of 6 before starting school (athletic resilience)
- with 10 years at the time of the shape change
- at the age of 14 during the greatest length growth
- at the age of 16 before starting the apprenticeship
- in adolescence at the first signs of scoliosis (sideways curvature) or kyphosis (hunchback)
Regular check-ups with the orthopaedist
Children with movement disorders and multiple disabilities with impaired gait and a risk of joint contractures should be examined by an orthopaedist at regular intervals in order to prevent contractures and joint dislocations in good time. For this purpose, we also offer special physiotherapy and manual therapy methods at our Center for Orthopaedics and Individual Medicine, as well as orthoses and other aids and relaxation methods as part of a holistic, interdisciplinary treatment concept.
